Cluster maps have been scanned and installed in the database. The maps scanned (output file in the tiff format) have been displayed with xv, captured with xwd and compressed with gzip. The result is that they occupy about 10 kB on the disk instead of some 300kB in the tiff format. They are uncompress on the fly and displayed with xwud. The command ximage is doing the display business. It needs the map author's name as argument.
> ngc 3572
> ximage moffat display Moffat's map
> ximage steppe display Steppe's map
The image may be moved only, but the size cannot be changed. A single click on the mouse left button, when the pointer is located within the map will make it disappear. It is of course possible to keep two maps on the screen.
> xprimage moffat make a hardcopy of Moffat's map
As discussed under command hpd, the command carte plots a cluster chart from the (x,y) rectangular positions and magnitude. By default, carte looks for the file hipad.xy. If none is existing you can enter any other -.xy filename.
Maps and charts can be displayed simultaneously on the screen.
