A complementary approach

A different solution was searched for in another approach. New commands with shorter and more direct scripts were written. Their names are evocative of the action they do, like meas or list. They effectively run a little faster and take usually less than one second, but the price to pay is an extension of typing. A example of the complete syntax would be meas ubv 1. The chain meas may be ascribed to a function key (F2 to F10) to save typing. Because these short scripts produce a shorter response time, a reverse policy has been adopted for the most common actions. It concerns the extraction of measurements, listing of a data file on the screen, display of the detailed content of a file and data comparaison.

A number of commands have no equivalent in command option syntax, like carte, ximage, post, and so on. See the Appendix A for a list and the second part of this guide for a description of their use and actions.
