Brian Skiff, 2007-01-30:

The HDE chart is ambiguous for the identification of HD 298954. It has been assigned to a red star, CPD-52 3353 = CD-52 3647 by both the Nesterov and the Fabricius cross-ID catalogues. The HDE star is, however, a fainter blue star (HDE type A2) that lies  30" northwest.

IRAS 10110-5317 = CPD-52 3353 = CD-52 3647 = TYC 8599-2547-1

— spectral type M3 (1993yCat.3170.....M)

HD 298954 = CPD-52 3352 = TYC 8599-1797-1

— HDE type A2

Brian Skiff, 2008-01-22:

In the Nesterov et al HDE catalogue (III/182), the red star HD 309078 has been mis-attributed to a fainter neighboring field star. They give the position as: 11 46 23.22 -61 53 46.0 (J2000), but instead the correct star is as shown in SIMBAD, specifically VV Cen etc at: 11 46 28.95 -61 53 26.8 (J2000). SIMBAD itself is correct.

Brian Skiff, 2008-01-27:

The Nesterov et al HDE catalogue (III/182) misidentifies the star HD 276788 as a faint companion  50" north of HD 276787. What was intended in the HDE is that the latter star is a composite binary (i.e. HD types F5 + A5). The spectral types are given by Ginestet et al (2002ApJS..143..513G) as K1III + A2.5. It is commonly the case that the HD type for the cool component is much too early, whereas the hot component is about right, which is the case here. In fact the binary was first reported by Cannon in 1922HarCi.231....1C as K0 + A, so the types were given roughly correctly very early on!
