Beginning of ReadMe : J/A+A/409/147 J magnitude of IC 348 brown dwarfs (Preibisch+, 2003) ================================================================================ Constraints on the IMF and the brown dwarf population of the young cluster IC 348. Preibisch T., Stanke T., Zinnecker H. <Astron. Astrophys. 409, 147 (2003)> =2003A&A...409..147P ================================================================================ ADC_Keywords: Clusters, open ; Stars, pre-main sequence ; Photometry Keywords: stars: pre-main sequence - stars: low-mass, brown dwarfs - stars: luminosity function, mass function - open clusters and associations: general Abstract: We use a deep near-infrared census of the young stellar cluster IC 348 to construct and analyze its luminosity function. Our mosaic image of IC 348 covers the full extent of the cluster with a completeness limit of J 19.5 and is therefore sensitive for 2Myr old cluster members with masses as low as M>=0.005M_sun_ or the mean extinction of the known cluster members (A_V_ 3.5mag). Description: The observations discussed in this paper were obtained during the night of 2nd Dec. 2001 using the Omega Prime wide-field near-infrared camera on the Calar Alto 3.5m telescope in service observing mode.
