The model is constrained by long-baseline interferometric observations that are sensitive to the Halpha Balmer line emission from the disk. For the first time, our interferometric observations spatially resolve the inner region of the circumstellar disk around chi Oph, and we use these results to place a constraint on the physical extent of the Halpha-emitting region. We demonstrate how this in turn results in very specific constraints on the parameters that describe the variation of the gas density as a function of radial distance from the central star. Description: We acquired interferometric observations of chi Oph on four nights between 2006 June 11 and 2006 June 18 using the Navy Prototype Optical Interferometer (NPOI). We used four different telescopes, resulting in five unique baselines (AC-AE (18.9m), AC-AW (22.2m), AW-W7 (29.5m), AC-W7 (51.6m), and AE-W7 (64.4m)), with AC-W7 baseline signal measured twice on two independent output beams.
