ADC_Keywords: Stars, M-type ; Spectra, infrared Keywords: stars: activity - stars: late-type - stars: chromospheres Abstract: The strong KI doublet near 7700Å and another doublet near 12500Å are studied in a sample of 324 M dwarfs using CARMENES spectra. For the optical doublet we use only the red line, since the blue line is often contaminated by telluric correction artefacts. Both doublets have a dominant photospheric component in inactive stars and can be used as tracers of effective temperature and gravity. For M dwarfs later than M5.0V the optical doublet lines develop an emission core. The line is often correlated to Hα for stars with Hα in emission and anticorrelated for stars with Hα in absorption. The near-infrared doublet lines very rarely show correlation/anti-correlation to Hα. Description: We measure the pseudo-equivalent width for pEW) of the KI doublet lines in each stellar spectrum. The integration ranges for the lines and the reference bands are found in Table 1 of the paper. For comparison purposes we also measure pEW values of Halpha. From these measurements we compute the mean pEW, the median absolute deviation (MAD) and Pearson's correlation coefficients for the lines.
