VII/87A Data on 1889 Abell's clusters of galaxies (Leir+ 1977)

Data on 1889 Abell's rich clusters of galaxies Leir A.A., van den Bergh S. <Astrophys. J. Suppl. Ser. 34, 381 (1977)> =1977ApJS...34..381L
ADC_Keywords: Clusters, galaxy ; Galaxy catalogs Description: A sample of 1889 clusters from Abell's catalogue of Rich Clusters of Galaxies (1958, ApJS 3, 211) have been classified in the Bautz-Morgan system See also: VII/110 : 1989 version of Abell's Catalogue File Summary:

Note (1): The classification is written with arabic number, with 1.5 = I-II and 2.5 = II-III. The classification is defined in Bautz L.P., Morgan W.W., 1970ApJ...162L.149B : Class I = clusters containing a centrally located cD galaxy II = clusters where brightest galaxy or galaxies are intermediate in appearance between class cD and the Virgo-type giant ellipticals III = clusters containing no dominant galaxies. Note (2): 1 mm = 67.14"
Historical Notes: * March 1990: the BMclasses I-II and III were all coded as '3' (note from H. Andernach). The corrections have been made at NSSDC/ADC (version VII/87A) * 21-Jul-1995: Standard description added at CDS * 02-Aug-2007: another 3 errors in MinAxis/MajAxis values communicated by H. Andernach.
