ADC_Keywords: Surveys ; Millimetric/submm sources Keywords: methods: statistical - galaxies: evolution - galaxies: formation - galaxies: starburst - submillimetre Abstract: We present a new submillimetre (submm) super-map in the Hubble Deep Field North (HDF-N) region (Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey North, GOODS-N, field), containing 40 statistically robust sources at 850um. This map contains additional data, and several new sources, including one of the brightest blank-sky extragalactic submm sources ever detected. We have used the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) Hubble Space Telescope (HST) images and ground-based near-infrared (IR) observations from the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey (GOODS), along with deep radio observations, to develop a systematic approach for counterpart identification. With the depth achieved by this survey, optical counterparts have been found for all the radio-detected (RD) submm sources. Description: As part of the ground-based follow-up to GOODS, near-IR data were obtained using Flamingos at the Kitt Peak National Observatory. These images provide coverage with more uniform sensitivity over the GOODS-N region than the Capak et al. (2004, Cat. J/AJ/127/180) HK' data, and in the standard J and Ks filters. File Summary:

Note on tablea1.dat: The table lists the 21 sources detected at a level of 4σ, followed by 17 sources detected initially at the level 3.5-4.0σ. The two extra sources found by cleaning our map are listed at the bottom of the table. Note on tablea2.dat: There are seven candidate sources detected at a level of 4σ; however none of them is detected at >5σ.

Note (1): Sources that are new since Paper II (Borys et al., 2004MNRAS.355..485B) are listed as New Note (2): Note as follows: a = See Dunlop et al. (2004MNRAS.350..769D) for detailed counterpart analysis of this source. Our cleaning procedure finds a companion source approximately 25 arcsec to the south-west. However a simultaneous fit places it at an signal-to-noise ratio of slightly less than 3.5. b = There are several minor changes compared with the table 4 of Paper II, which we discuss in the text. Note that GN38 is just outside the GOODS-N region. Note (3): Status of the optical counterpart for each submillimetre (submm) source as follows: S = secure T = tentative M = multiple possible counterparts that meet our counterpart selection criteria N = no counterpart
