J/MNRAS/355/1251 Bar-induced strengths in spiral galaxies (Laurikainen+, 2004)

Bar-induced perturbation strengths of the galaxies in the Ohio State University Bright Galaxy Survey - I. Laurikainen E., Salo H., Buta R., Vasylyev S. <Mon. Not. R. Astron. Soc., 355, 1251-1271 (2004)> =2004MNRAS.355.1251L
ADC_Keywords: Galaxies, nearby ; Morphology Keywords: galaxies: spiral - galaxies: statistics Abstract: Bar-induced perturbation strengths are calculated for a well-defined magnitude-limited sample of 180 spiral galaxies, based on the Ohio State University Bright Galaxy Survey. We use a gravitational torque method, the ratio of the maximal tangential force to the mean axisymmetric radial force, as a quantitative measure of the bar strength. File Summary:

Note (1): Notes on galaxies as follows: a = Manual decomposition fit b = H-band image not deep enough to determine hr well, but the bulge model is reasonable c = Bulge model is taken from the fit to the inner regions, and the disc parameters from the fit to the outer regions of the galaxy. d = No bar is fitted, although the galaxy is barred in RC3. e = The number of iterations is limited in the decomposition. f = The H-band image field is too small g = Prominent outer ring dominates the disc
