ADC_Keywords: Clusters, galaxy ; X-ray sources Keywords: catalogs - dark matter - galaxies: clusters: general - X-rays: galaxies: clusters Abstract: We present and analyze the optical and X-ray catalogs of moderate-redshift cluster candidates from the ROSAT Optical X-Ray Survey, or ROXS. The survey covers the sky area contained in the fields of view of 23 deep archival ROSAT PSPC pointings, 4.8 square degrees. The cross-correlated cluster catalogs were constructed by comparing two independent catalogs extracted from the optical and X-ray bandpasses, using a matched-filter technique for the optical data and a wavelet technique for the X-ray data. We cross-identified cluster candidates in each catalog. File Summary:

Note (1): The target are cluster candidates with X-ray counterparts (Table 6). Note (2): Individual notes: d: Significance in the I band is 2.94σ, formally below a 3σ threshold. e: The center of the I band candidate was significantly obscured by scattered light in the V-band image, but the matched filter algorithm found a couple of cluster candidates in the unaffected regions of the V image. g: These two cluster candidates overlap at the 3σ contour level, but the centroids differ significantly. These systems, if a true match, are filamentary and unlikely to be virialized. h: Note significant difference in estimated redshifts between the I and V data. Note (3): Note though that Lambda from the I and V bands should be similar. Note (4): KS probability between 0 and 1 that the galaxies were randomly selected from the same parent population as the rest of the galaxies in the same field. Typically ∼2000 galaxies were measured in the same field. Note (5): Note on P(KS): f: The joint photometry for this candidate was significantly distant from the X-ray core because of scattered light limitations.

Note (1): Flag on redshift: d: double X-ray source; 2: The extended X-ray source RXJ1256.9+4720 is likely to be associated with the radio galaxy 3C280, the target of the original observation. The X-rays could be from the galaxy or a cluster surrounding the galaxy. Note (2): Flag on Match: 3: This source (Abell 1455) was obscured by a nearby F3 star in the I-band data, but 3 optical candidates were identified nearby. The matched filter algorithm may have picked up the outskirts of this cluster. The sources OC 1, 4, 5 are OC1 1203+2758, OC4 1204+2805, OC5 1204+2801, respectively.

Note (1): Individual note: a: The X-ray cluster was obscured by the diffraction spike of an F3 star; the matched filter algorithm found three candidates in the vicinity, none close enough for an official match.
Global notes: Note (G1): Corresponds to the equivalent number of L* galaxies in the cluster such that the optical cluster luminosity Lambda/L☉=LambdaL*/L☉=Lambda*10-0.4(M☉_-M*)^ where M☉ is the absolute magnitude of the Sun in the appropriate band (Postman et al., 1996AJ....111..615P). The quantity Lambda is relatively insensitive to H0; variations ∼5% were measured if h75=1.33 rather than 1.0. For reference, a richness class 1 cluster at z≤0.7 had Lambda=30-65 in the I-band (Postman et al., 1996AJ....111..615P). Note (G2): Based on the best-fit luminosity function. Note (G3): Corresponding to the area of detection equal to π Rad2.
