ADC_Keywords: Planetary nebulae ; Magellanic Clouds ; Photometry, infrared ; Cross identifications Mission_Name: Spitzer Keywords: infrared: stars - Magellanic Clouds - planetary nebulae: general - stars: mass loss Abstract: We present IRAC and MIPS images and photometry of a sample of previously known planetary nebulae (PNe) from the Surveying the Agents of a Galaxy's Evolution (SAGE) survey of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) performed with the Spitzer Space Telescope. Of the 233 known PNe in the survey field, 185 objects were detected in at least two of the IRAC bands, and 161 detected in the MIPS 24um images. Color-color and color-magnitude diagrams are presented using several combinations of IRAC, MIPS, and Two Micron All Sky Survey magnitudes. The location of an individual PN in the color-color diagrams is seen to depend on the relative contributions of the spectral components which include molecular hydrogen, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), infrared forbidden line emission from the ionized gas, warm dust continuum, and emission directly from the central star. The sample of LMC PNe is compared to a number of Galactic PNe and found not to significantly differ in their position in color-color space. We also explore the potential value of IR PNe luminosity functions (LFs) in the LMC. IRAC LFs appear to follow the same functional form as the well-established [OIII] LFs although there are several PNe with observed IR magnitudes brighter than the cut-offs in these LFs. Description: Observations were obtained as part of the SAGE survey of the LMC (Meixner et al. 2006, Cat. J/AJ/132/2268): imaging survey of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC; ∼7°x7°) using the IRAC (3.6, 4.5, 5.8, and 8um) and MIPS (24, 70, and 160um) instruments on board the Spitzer Space Telescope during two epochs in 2005. The photometry was obtained from IRAC and MIPS images of the LMC that were obtained as part of the Spitzer SAGE legacy survey. Mosaics were constructed using all epochs of SAGE data for positions around the known PNe candidates from Leisy et al. (1997, Cat. J/A+AS/121/407), and photometry extracted for those sources that were detected. For the 2MASS and MIPS 70 and 160 micron bands, the expected fluxes of most of the objects are below the flux limit of the survey and are undetected. In other cases, the sources might have been detected except for confusion with other sources in the field or higher background due to extended emission in star-forming regions, for example, which will affect the statistics in those bands. The table gives the Spitzer source position and distance from the Leisy et al. (1997, Cat. J/A+AS/121/407) position. The magnitudes in each of the Spitzer bands are given (when detected), and the characteristics of the source and field near the nebula are indicated in the last column. The 5 sigma point source sensitivity limits are 17.2, 16.2, 15.6, 19.3, 18.5, 16.1, 15.4, 10.4, 3.5, and -0.6mag for the 2MASS J, H, K, IRAC 3.6 micron, 4.5 micron, 5.8 micron, 8.0 micron, and MIPS 24 micron, 70 micron, and 160 micron bands, respectively.
