J/AJ/134/1368 Proper motions in NGC 2244 and NGC 6530 (Chen+, 2007)

Mass segregation in very young open clusters: a case study of NGC 2244 and NGC 6530. Chen L., De Grijs R., Zhao J.L. <Astron. J., 134, 1368-1379 (2007)> =2007AJ....134.1368C
ADC_Keywords: Clusters, open ; Proper motions Keywords: astrometry - open clusters and associations: general - open clusters and associations: individual (NGC 2244, NGC 6530) - stellar dynamics Abstract: We derive the proper motions, membership probabilities, and velocity dispersions of stars in the regions of the young (∼2-4Myr old) open clusters NGC 2244 (the central cluster in the Monoceros R2 association) and NGC 6530 (the dominant cluster in the Sgr OB1 association) from photographic plate material obtained at Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, with time baselines of 34 and 87yr, respectively. Both clusters show clear evidence of mass segregation, but they do not exhibit any significant velocity-mass (or, equivalently, velocity-luminosity) dependence. Description: For the open clusters NGC 2244 and NGC 6530, all photographic plates used for the proper-motion reduction were taken by the 40cm refractor telescope (with a focal length of 6895mm) at the Sheshan (Zo-Se) Station of the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, operated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. For NGC 2244, four plates for each of the first and second epochs were taken in 1963-1964 and 1998-1999, respectively, spanning a time baseline of 35yr. For NGC 6530, two first-epoch plates and four second-epoch plates were taken in 1912 and 1999, respectively, spanning 87yr. File Summary:
