ADC_Keywords: Clusters, globular ; Radial velocities ; Spectroscopy Keywords: galaxies: dwarf - galaxies: individual (VCC 1087) - galaxies: kinematics and dynamics - globular clusters: general Abstract: We present an analysis of the globular cluster (GC) system of the nucleated dwarf elliptical galaxy VCC 1087 in the Virgo Cluster based on Keck LRIS spectroscopy and archival Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys imaging. We estimate that VCC 1087 hosts a total population of 77±19 GCs, which corresponds to a relatively high V-band specific frequency of 5.8±1.4. The g475-z850 color distribution of the GCs shows a blue (metal-poor) peak with a tail of redder (metal-rich) clusters similar in color to those seen in luminous elliptical galaxies. Description: Photometry of VCC 1087 and its GC system was derived from Sloan-type g-band (F475W) and z-band (F850LP) wide-field images taken with the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) as part of the ACS Virgo Cluster Survey (Cote et al. 2004, Cat. J/ApJS/153/223). Optical spectra were obtained for 12 GC candidates identified from the g475 and z850 HST ACS images during the nights of 2004 April 24-25, using the Low Resolution Imaging Spectrograph (LRIS) on the Keck I telescope.
