J/AJ/123/2822 Photometry of southern NLTT stars (Reid+, 2002)

Meeting the cool neighbors. II. Photometry of southern NLTT stars. Reid I.N., Kilkenny D., Cruz K.L. <Astron. J. 123, 2822 (2002)> =2002AJ....123.2822R
ADC_Keywords: Stars, nearby ; Photometry, UBVRI ; Stars, distances Keywords: Galaxy: stellar content - stars: red dwarfs Abstract: We present BVRI photometry of 180 bright, southern nearby-star candidates. The stars were selected from the New Luyten Two-Tenths proper-motion catalog (Cat. I/98) based on optical/infrared colors, constructed by combining Luyten's mr estimates with near-infrared photometry from the Two Micron All Sky Survey (Cat. <B/2mass>) . Photometric parallaxes derived from V-Ks, V-I, and I-J colors, combined with the limited available astrometry, show that as many as 108 stars may lie within 20pc of the Sun. Of these, 53 are new to nearby-star catalogs, including three within 10pc of the Sun. File Summary:

Note (1): Adding Lowell Observatory identifications. Note (2): Flag on NLTT: 1: Binary stars where we have joint photometry for both components. We have used the NLTT magnitudes to estimate the relative contribution, and the distance and absolute magnitudes are based on the estimated optical/near-infrared colors of the primary. Note (3): Based on a weighted average of the photometric average and the trigonometric result. Note (4): Distance limit code: Y: star lies within our distance limit of 20pc; ?: within 1σ of the boundary; N: beyond the limit; +: indicates that the star is not included in the preliminary version of the Third Catalogue of Nearby Stars (Jahreis & Gliese, 1991NSC3..C......0G, Cat. V/70).
