J/AJ/123/2597 Hα stars and HH objects near BRCs (Ogura+, 2002)

Hα emission stars and Herbig-Haro objects in the vicinity of bright-rimmed clouds. Ogura K., Sugitani K., Pickles A. <Astron. J. 123, 2597 (2002)> =2002AJ....123.2597O
ADC_Keywords: H II regions ; Infrared sources ; Stars, pre-main sequence ; Stars, emission Keywords: H II regions - ISM: globules - ISM: Herbig-Haro objects - stars: formation - stars: pre-main-sequence Abstract: Bright-rimmed clouds (BRCs) found in H II regions are probably sites of triggered star formation due to compression by ionization/shock fronts. Many BRCs harbor IRAS point sources of low dust temperature. They also frequently contain a small cluster of near-IR stars that is elongated along the axis of the BRC. Here we present the results of our Hα grism spectroscopy and narrowband imaging observations of BRCs in search of candidate premain-sequence stars of the T Tauri, Herbig Ae/Be and related types, and Herbig-Haro (HH) objects. We have detected a large number (460) of Hα emission stars down to a limiting magnitude of about R=20 in and around all but two of the 28 BRCs observed. The present study has, for the first time, reached down nearly to the faintest classical T Tauri star population in OB associations. A total of 12 new HH objects have been found. File Summary:

Note (1): Star numbers identifying the stars in the finding charts Figures 1a to 1z. In Simbad, the stars are identified as [OSP2002] BRC Seq, i.e. "[OSP2002] BRC 1 1" for "BRC01 1"Note (2): For stars where only eye estimates of their emission strengths Note (2): For stars where only eye estimates of their emission strengths were possible w = weak (0.5 to 2Å); m = moderate (2 to 5Å); s = strong (5 to 10Å); vs = very strong (over 10Å). Note (3): Poor accuracy because of the difficulty of continuum determination.
