We summarise the key goals and design of the survey and provide a detailed description of our data reduction techniques. We provide stacked, sky-subtracted images in Y JHKs and narrow-band filters constructed from data collected during the first year of UltraVISTA observations. Description: Matched source catalogue prepared for the first UltraVISTA (DR1 catalogue release. To 5σ limit, our Ks -selected catalogue contains 216268 sources observed in Y, J, H and Ks bands over the full UltraVISTA deep area (∼1.3deg2), with NB118 observation over the "ultra-deep stripes" area. Note (1): based on COSMOS astrometric reference frame. Note (2): This bad region flag only indicates objects (with a flag value of T) at the edge of the Ks detection image; bright stars are not flagged in this catalogue version. Note (3): All magnitudes are in AB system, in the VISTA instrumental magnitude system. Note (4): for each band, the SExtrator flag is reported indicating if an object is blended or has otherwise corrupter photometric measurements. To select objects with non-corrupted photometry for the NB118 data, one should select in addition only objects with NB118flag<1. The best possible object sample are those objects which have all flags equal to zero in all bands.
